今年打入美國職業棒球「World Series」的兩隊，分別是美國聯盟（AL）總冠軍紐約洋基隊（New York Yankees），以及國家聯盟（NL）總冠軍佛州劍魚隊（Florida Marlins）。
和「World Series」的「年齡」一樣，紐約洋基隊今年亦剛好一百歲。它絕對是美國棒球界的霸主，未計今年，已三十八次奪得美國聯盟總冠軍，更贏了超過四分之一的「World Series」──二十六次！
自九六年起在領隊Joe Torre的英明領導下，Yankees況態大勇，八年內六度打進「World Series」，勝出四次，只敗一次！（今屆結果未知。）相比起「年紀」甚輕、戰績較少的佛州劍魚隊，洋基隊自然被看高一線。
劍魚隊真的很年輕，可卻不能小覷。球會在九三年才正式成立參賽，卻在短短的四年間，就由「新牌仔」變為強隊！九七年它首度奪得季後賽資格，即一鳴驚人，輕易取得國家聯盟總冠軍，更擊敗三藩市巨人隊贏了「World Series」，創下最年輕球會奪魁的紀錄。年僅十歲的它，今年是第二次打進「World Series」了。
又是一個典型的少年大衞對巨人哥利亞的場景；看來，爆冷機會甚高！
