電影《魔戒三部曲》之結局《王者再臨》上映在即（香港十二月十八日公映），但相信此刻《魔戒》導演彼得積遜（Peter Jackson）及其班底，已忙於籌備下一部大片了。
之前有諸多猜測：到底彼得在完成三部《魔戒》之後，會否添食開拍「前傳」？須知《魔戒三部曲》原著小說的確有「前傳」，名為《哈比人歷險記》（The Hobbit），講述哈比人比爾博（佛羅多的叔叔）如何獲得魔戒的冒險故事。彼得積遜把《魔戒》搬上銀幕的成績有目共睹，Fans自然十分期望他會拍埋「前傳」。
可是，彼得已表明對此暫不考慮，因為他下一個Project已然有定案，乃重拍一九三三年的荷里活經典怪獸片：《金剛》！
其實早於九六年，彼得已計畫要把黑白的《金剛》（並非七六年那部彩色新版）重新演繹，連劇本亦已寫好，並得電影公司初步拍板，預算於九八年上映。但當電影公司得悉九八年將有《哥斯拉》、《巨猩傳說》等幾套巨大怪獸片同時上畫，為避免惡性競爭，把計畫取消了。
當年彼得失意於《金剛》，卻因而接得《魔戒》這個大Project；好個塞翁失馬！如今他重拾舊志，實屬美談也！
