一九三八年廣播劇《The War of the Worlds》弄假成真，可謂人類與火星人的一場經典「神交」。影響所及，荷里活對火星人入侵地球的題材開始樂此不疲。
一九五三年，電影版的《The War of the Worlds》上映。與廣播劇一樣，此片描述火星人突然大舉來襲，以飛碟及死光武器到處破壞，各大城市逐一淪陷；人類出動到原子彈也抵擋不了火星人，正在束手無策、坐以待斃之際……火星人卻忽然紛紛倒下來！原來，牠們被地球上的細菌所擊倒了！
好一個反諷！最高等的生物，力量卻不及最微小的生命；再高的科技，也敵不過大自然的威力！
較不為人知的是，這套電影面世三十五年後，美國有電視台開拍了續篇連續劇，由八八年播到九○年。故事講述：火星人之役後數十年，因為地球輻射污染，令部分死去的火星人復活，密謀再佔地球；可是，大部分地球人早已遺忘了當年的戰役，完全不以為意……
九六年添布頓（Tim Burton）執導的一套《Mars Attacks!》（港譯《火星人玩轉地球》），堪稱搞笑版的《The War of the Worlds》。而最新版本的《The War of the Worlds》亦在籌拍中，據知會由湯告魯斯監製；看來，火星人侵佔地球之心，永遠不死！（待續）
