Date Posted: 18:09:24 03/28/03 Fri Hello all, I'm from the UK and i've been quite unsettled by some of the views of the USA on the net and other media outlets, today i was watching a programme on the current state of anti war protests in the USA. One of the subjects on the programme was the current policy of arresting people that oppesed the war publicly by wearing anti war slogans on their t-shirts. This fact baffled me as i always understood the USA as a nation where all people could publicly voice their opinions without fear of persecution, i do understand that there is a stark difference between anit-americanism and free speech but i honestly believe that the current treatment towards genuine protestors is unjust. I currently have four family members serving in the gulf region three of them are on HMS Ark Royal and one is serving in the Royal Air Force as a gunner and they all believe that a push for democracy is an honourable cause but that it is not our duty do enforce such policy of foreign states because certain governments think it's the "right" thing to do. We cannot act as the worlds police force. If anyone wants to email me please feel free but understand that i'm not into pissing anyone off so i hope you afford me the same respect. Cheers Don [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
