My face tends to be a little dry these days, but still some acne problems from time to time. I got a bottle of store brand oil of olay from one of the drugstores (can't think which one, it was a few years ago) as a freebie and really liked it, it was light and not greasy, but enough to take the dryness away. After that was gone, I bought a big bottle of similar stuff at the 99 cent store. Again, it is light and absorbed pretty quickly, but this one also contains nonoxyl-9 (yes, the widely used spermicide) which seems to destroy acne and other skin irritations wonderfully for me, including some recurring pimples that never seemed to heal right.
A few months after buying the bottle from the 99 Cent Store, I was placed in a trial study for an expensive facial moisturizer. While that stuff smelled fancy and nice, it felt and worked almost identically to the 99 Cent Store stuff.
When my face is really dry I use regular skin lotion in a brand that doesn't have much scent but feels creamier than the above mentioned stuff. St Ives Intensive Healing is really good, very moisturizing and not much odor. This may not be good if you are prone to acne or have very sensitive skin
I don't know which brands dollar general carries, but our dollar stores seem to carry a wide selection of creams and lotions for the face that are pretty cheap. If you try one and don't like it, you can always use it to moisturize your feet or elbows ;^)
