We solved this by just getting up and walking away. When he gets too bitey, we push him away, give him a "bad" look and the sign for "no biting" and ignore him for a few moments. (Think, "I can't play with you if you insist on misbehaving.") When he's calm, he gets attention, and if he gets mouthy again, we just repeat the sign, look, and the ignoring. It's cured his mouthiness for the most part, but he regresses occassionally when he's really wound up, and needs a refresher.
