Subject: detering running away!

Hello.

I recently adopted a deaf dalmation. She is a sweetheart, but given the opportunity, she will bolt out the front door!

The other dogs we have are labs and they do not run away. I would like to be able to know she will not bolt when the door opens. I fully understand a deaf dog cannot really be off leash, but I would like some advice on methods I may use to train her not to go out the door, or out the gate.

I won't use any shock method, so electric fences are out of the question. I would also like to be able to let her play at the beach, off leash. It is a small, cliff surrounded beach, so she can't really go anywhere.

Any ideas on how to keep her from escaping would be most helpful to me!

My ideal result would be that she would not go out the door, or out the gate without being on a leash. CAN IT BE DONE!!!???
