Subject: *she picks up the books and opens it to a book-marked page* It says here that Phantoms of Forts, especially large populated forts, are very common. over here, in the margin, there is a story, poorly scribbled in red ink. I'll read that. Inside.

There once was a young weasel child who lived at Lancepaw's Fort. She hid in the rafters, and played at the edge of the pond, unnoticed by every other beast. She wore a long, flowing red dress, and a straw hat with roses in it. One day, this girl was walking along the rafters, reading her book Phantoms of the Fort, when she lost her footing and fell to the floor of what is now the Dancing Hall. There she lay, crumpled in a heap of red fabric, broken straw, petal-less roses, and blood. She did not know that she had died, so she stood up out of her body and climbed up into the rafters once more to skip and read. Soon, the other inhabitants found the bloody heap of a weasel child on the floor. One, young ermine walked out in a blue dress decorated with lace, and hugged the form, sobbing to her mother, 'Areeahna's dead, isn't she?' and the mother replied, 'Yes, Nightband, she fell from high above and died, but her soul does not know this, so she is still frolicking above us.' The beasts moved the body and buried it outside, in the hill near the pond. Now, she is still here, but not; searching for her dear childhood friend whom mourned forevermore.

*her face grew into a mixture of sadness, and anger with herself as she looked up into the rafters* You...were the childhood friend I lost, when I was but five seasons old...? Areeahna? You? *she set down the book, then sat on the floor, crying*
