Thanks for the message board - and I'm hoping somebody reading this will be able to point me in the right direction. My gg grandfather was Robert Crichton, who married Eliza Hunter on 14 April 1840 at St Philips Church, Liverpool, so I'm told. They had children Mary, Frederick, a second Mary who died like the first, another Mary, and left for Australia, where they had several other children. On their wedding entry it says Eliza was the daughter of William Hunter a brass finisher, and Robert was an engineer. What happened to the rest of Eliza's family and how did Robert become an engineer of what?
