Subject: JJ explains F***

No. I won't.

Fuck, shit, whatever, they're just sounds you make with your mouth. I'm not saying n***er, I'm not saying ethic or gay slurs. The only offense you take to the word FUCK is what you and others have invented out of nothing. I don't know, maybe it actually had a loaded significance in the past. But in 2016 it has no historical meaning, no racial/sexist/ethic baggage. It only offends to the extent that you personally decided it offends. And I not only disagree with the meaning you've assigned to it - I don't respect it. I don't respect however you feel about the word fuck. The assignation you've made is senseless to me. And I get to decide what sounds I wish to make, and which words I chose to use.

I think you know damn well I have an extensive vocabulary and can express my thoughts in a thousand different ways. I choose to use what you consider obscenities (and which I don't).

Why? I guess I am using a bit of the historical importance that people have assigned to the words. But the far more important reason is that these are just great words. These particular curse words have stood the test of time. Right? Imagine how many other obscene words there must have been whose offensiveness just faded away throughout history. Probably thousands of them, the "fuck" of their time, many that are now just commonplace words. (So maybe you should study up, there may be a bunch of words you should decide to be offended by! How can you know that logically and still decide to be offended by the "fuck" of our day?)

I think the ones that have survived to today have done so particularly because they're fantastic words. Language goes through the same evolutionary process as everything else, and the best words survive.

Goddamnit/Damn, of course, has the religious context. And you know I'm not religious so why bother with sacrilegious words? But i personally love just the beautiful rhythm of "jesus fucking christ". I probably use that in person more than anything, but it doesn't have the same rhythmic beauty written as it does when spoken. Jesus fucking christ! Pretty. Poetic.

But non religious/non racist/non sexist/non ethnic/non homophobic/etc words, which you've only decided are offensive only because people hundreds of years ago decided it so and for literally no other reason, have survived as well.

Shit!

Who hasn't yelled that word out when they've sprained their ankle or hit their knee or screwed up their computer? If not, I pity you. Because "shoot" isn't the same, and you know it.

Asshole. Ass hole. A fucking brilliant word when you take a second to think about it. The rhythm or meter or whatever (I don't have the poetic knowledge to describe it) is just perfect for what it describes. And the adding of "hole" is transformative. The difference between an "ass" and an "asshole" is significant and understood by nearly everyone - the basis of all language. Whoever invented that word is a true genius.

And yes, FUCK. Others have written about what an amazing and versatile word it is, so you can google that if you actually want to learn a different perspective than what you've already decided, as I expect you don't. But it is, quite literally, the most versatile word in the English language. It can punctuate anger, it adds power as an adjective, it is enormously useful in mock anger type comedy (your feelings about that type of comedy couldn't be more pointless). It can be used in literally *dozens* of ways. And when I use it, I do it very deliberately. You may think I shouldn't use it at all, or less frequently than I do. I don't care. But I am saying that i don't use it thoughtlessly. Every word I choose is deliberate. You're entitled to feel how you feel about it, and I'm entitled to express myself how I choose. If you have children and you think this board - with its ads about Russian hookers - is the first time they'll see the word "fuck", then that's your problem. Shield the fucking screen from their faces - and they'll never hear the word FUCK until they're married! If your kids are 8, they've heard the word a hundred times. At 10 it'll be a thousand.

Jesus fucking christ.

And if it's just that you personally don't like the word(s), I mean, grow the fuck up. It's a word. It's a noise you make with your mouth. It's not historically racist or sexist or bigoted.
The only meaning it has is what you decide it has. It's just a word that in its purest form refers to the most fucking natural thing in the world - except it means so much more than that, if you could appreciate how great a word it is. But if it hurts your, what, feelings? I'm asking here. If it gives you any negative feeling at all, I mean - just... stop. Stop feeling bad about it. Decide you're not going to be offended anymore. Problem solved! It's just a noise, that's all.

And if you can't get past it, well - that's your problem. Take a pass on the board and go do that certain word you don't like to your wife.
