Subject: Movie Prop Rubble Fooled Me

Friday I'm going to hear the Grant Park Orchestra and decide to skip the EL (which is closer) and take the commuter train so I can take a hike. I'm walking east on Washington and on the opposite side of the street I see a pile of rubble from what looked like a demolished building. I thought to myself 'gee those are some large chunks of stone that are going to be hard to haul away.'

So later that evening after I return from the concert, Mom turtle and I are watching the 10 o'clock news and I see a pile of rubble on the screen. It looked just like the corner that I saw downtown. So after the commercial I tell Mom to turn on the sound (she loves the mute button - silent TV - what a concept) and sure enough the reporter is talking about a staging area at Washington and Franklin of movie prop rubble to be used in Transformers 3 that's beginning its filming in Chicago.

I tell my mom I saw that and when the news show a young girl and her mother who came in from the suburbs just to see the pile of fake rubble my mom laughs "they made a special trip and here you didn't even know what you were seeing."

Well, isn't that the point? Ah, the magic of the movies.
