Tornado Sirens that is...

The first Tuesday of every month the emergency sirens are tested. When I was a kid they were air raid sirens and for years we didn't have any sirens. The past ten years they were repaired and upgraded and tested the first Tuesday of every month.

This evening was the first time I've ever heard the Emergency Sirens go off in Chicago. We had some severe weather and I thought I heard a car alarm but I had to open a window to listen. Then I thought it might be fire trucks but I realized it was the warning siren. Went to tell my mom and suggested we head to the basement. Stayed there for about twenty minutes and the storm passed. On the news later I did see trees and power lines down to the NW of us and to the SE of us. We had some heavy rain - if we had been sleeping we never would have heard any sirens.
