You know what scares me? The thought that there are other wonderful, brilliant yet very complex kids like Andrew out there who DON'T have amazing parents that are determined to do everything in their power to make his life as good as it can be. I won't give you some song and dance about how everything is going to be absolutely peachy for Andrew or that you'll all come through this better off for it, but that would just be me talking out of my ass on a topic I don't know anything about (wouldn't be the first time by the way). So, I won't do that. All I can say is what I say about my sister and brother-in-law who have a child (my godson) with Down's Syndrome. Andrew isn't lucky that he has to deal with this, but he's lucky that he has a mother and father who love him dearly, recognize the richness he brings to their lives; and is determined to see it through every freakin' step of the way.

Your mom is just being a ridiculous martyr to the nth degree. I'm very sorry about that. You and Laura don't need to be subjected to petty games.
