Subject: Supporting Our Troops

I believe that it is only right that since I created this forum that I post a message in it. I apologize that I wasn't the first to do so. However, I have been busy gathering information about the site I and a few others are working on. The link is at the top of the page, so please take a moment or two and visit it.

The reason I started the site and this forum is because I am shocked and disgusted with how the world is reacting to what is going on in Iraq at the moment. What upsets me most, though, is the way our own citizens are reacting.

Several days ago, I read two articles at the Fox News site that prompted me to do this. In the two articles that I read, the first was about teenagers in Vermont throwing stones at a female soldier. I was appalled at the lack of respect given her. It should be an honor, not shame, to wear the uniform of our country. That someone loves our country enough and believes in our rights to the extent they would give their very lives for it are deserving of repect. All of our armed forces should be able to wear their uniforms with pride and dignity. And for an United States sentor, Patrick Leahy, to just say that it is "disturbing" is outrageous.

The other article I read was about a Columbia assistant professor who at a six hour "teach-in" stated his wishes that our troops experience another incident like that of what happened in Somalia. It's insane. He is wishing death on the very men and women who are out there protecting his right to say that garbage.

There are very valid reasons for why this war is being fought. The current Iraqi regime has committed numerous against it's own people. They have invaded other countries in hopes of expanding their borders. They have violated the terms of the surrender during the first Gulf War. They have mutilated, tortured, raped, and performed countless acts of unspeakable things to their very own people. And still the world turns a blind eye and says that we are wrong.

Evidence *does* exist showing direct terrorist links to this regime. But still people deny it. They protest this war and call our soldiers baby killers. Their protests are based purely on ignorance.

Where was the public outcry when our soldiers were killed and wounded in 1993 in the ambush of Somalia? There was none!

And people listen to Hollywood celebrities that are no more knowledgeable about foreign policy than kindergarteners. They do not have the education nor background to advise in something of this magnitude. But because they are famous or because someone liked them in a movie, people are prepared to accept their word as fact.

Our leaders are provided daily updates and reports on the situation from our country's intelligence agencies. Where do these celebrities gain theirs? How is it that they are better informed than the average American or our president and his cabinet?

I support our troops, our country, and our leaders. They have provided us with fact, not fiction or fantasies about a perfect world. And I don't care how many Michael Moores yell, rant, or rave on stage.
