I'm going on my third sister who's had a baby out of wedlock. The first two kept their babies after checking it out. The councelor was very supportive and helped them prayerfully make their decisions. My youngest sister is due in May, she really want to put the baby up for adoption, but the guy is stone walling. Again, the church councelor is being of great help in letting her know her options, legally and with the Church adoption services.

My SIL had a baby at 17 and gave her up. She has kept in limited contact with the parents.

A sister in the ward I grew up in, adopted after only being able to have one child, who was a teenager when they finally did adopt. He's a lovely little boy and the last time I spoke with them seemed to be doing well. I know they waited a while, since they did already have one child.

A friend of mine had multiple m/c without ever having a child make it. 1 singleton, 1 set of twins and 1 set of quads. She looked into adoption and said there was a one year wait, but if she would take older children or even sibling pairs or more, there was only a few months wait for the paper work to go through. Now, this was in Texas, so the laws may vary from state to state.

I knew a lady in my old ward who adopted 5 children, because she couldn't conceive. They were in Germany when they adopted their first child and she was black. They have since adopted children of mixed races so that none of them would feel out of place. Their children are all beautiful and very talented. The mother is a expert pianist and has taught them all the piano and let them learn another instrument.

I also know a lady in the same ward who is black and foster parented many children, had 5 children of her own, adopted 5, and then usually kept 4-5 at a time. It is hard to find black parents to foster or adopt. She would take the crack and aids babies, no body else wanted. She currently has a set of twin girls 6 yrs old, one of whom has cerebral palsy. She is my hero. She doesn't keep as many now, since she's in her late 50's, and has an abundance of grandchildren to keep her busy.

I am a strong advocate for adoption. My husband and I would like to adopt when our youngest gets older, I get my health under control and we get more finacially stable. I have been promised monetary blessings in my patriarchal blessing and plan to put it to good use. I want to foster the critically ill babies that no one wants, even if we can't adopt.

I hope someone has a more personal experience to share about adoption through Church family services, as mine have always been from the outside.

Jenifer,
Mother to˙
