Subject: I had a good and bad evening (m)

My mom called this afternoon and invited me to a play at a local community college. One of my brothers didn't want to go so they had an extra ticket. Jon is working nights this weekend so I got a sitter and went with my mom, dad and youngest brother. I told the sitter that I would have my cell phone on silent, but would call during intermission. Just as the play is starting she calls, but did not leave a message so I decided to wait. When I do call she tells me that Cameron had had a major tantrum because she wouldn't give him a hot dog. I had told her that we had pizza early, but that they could have more if they wanted. However, I hadn't told her that Cam's favorite food is hotdogs and I don't really care what he has while there is a sitter there as long as he's good. I guess it got so bad that she called her dad to come over and calm cam down! I tell her she did the right thing and it was really my fault for not telling her exactly what they were allowed to eat. I did not enjoy the second half of the play as I was so upset by the news. When I got home at 10:30 Cam was still awake playing in his room-he's an insomniac so that's ok. The sitter was fine and reassured me that she'll still sit for us and that it wasn't a big deal. This is the daughter of our primary pres and my best friend in the ward and they have a daughter the same age as Cam that has behavioral problems as well, so I konw she could handle it, but I just feel so horrible. Cam hasn't had a melt down for 2 months now and usually is fine with sitters. I paid her almost double our normal rate. I tried not to lose MY temper with Cameron when I got back from taking her home, but did when he lied and said her dad didn't come over. We talked about it and he's grounded from soda tomorrow (a big deal for him) and has to make cards for both the sitter and her dad to say he's sorry. Now I just need to let it go myself. I just wish I'd answered the phone, told her he could have the stupid hot dog and it never would have escalated.

OH that child!!!!! The play was really good and if you ever get a chance to see Radio Gals then do. I just wish my son hadn't ruined it for me.

Nighty night.

just get away and not have to worry about what's happening at home. I'm glad that you had a good sitter. We still haven't found anyone who can "sit" for us that we trust; except other adults that I just trade sitting for.

I'm glad that Cam is writing notes to apologize. That's a good lesson learned. Hugs~~~Sheila
