Subject: I just spoke with Andrea (m)

She sounded great, which is the first time I've heard her sound that way in a long time. She said she misses all of you very much and thinks of us often. I've filled her in on what's happened with PP and, like us, she's just disgusted by it all. I've given her this web address to where we are now and she'll write when she can.

The balloons we sent to Alex arrived and Alex was SO tickled by them. Ginger, she said a special thank-you to you for arranging it all :o) Alex was asleep when they were delivered. When she woke up and saw them, she gasped and said, "Ballooooonnnnsssss....." if a very soft yet excited voice :o) In fact, she loved them so much she went to sleep holding them! Unfortunately, while Andrea was still talking with me she let go of them (after an hour!) so she didn't get a picture of it, but she did take pictures of her playing with them earlier. I'll let you know if I get copies of them.

The *great* news is that Alex is, once again, continuing to amaze the doctors. She already has an ANC of 300 and will probably be released from the hospital next week. They will still have many months at the apartment, but at least she'll be back with her family. Last transplant she got out at 28 days post-transplant. That was considered very fast. It looks like she's going to be even faster this time :o) The bad news is that NCCS is still refusing to pay for the new apartment. That means and extra $1900 expense every month that they weren't counting on. They've taken pictures of the old apartment (I can't even begin to describe to you how disgusting and dirty it sounded) and will be sending them to NCCS. If that still produces no response, they'll post all about it on their website with hopes of generating an email campaign to put pressure on the company. The Martini's point is very valid... They're being told that if they want assistance, they have to stay in an apartment which could cause the death of their child because it's so filthy. What kind of choice is that??!

On another bright note, Nicholas is doing great too. He's over 9 pounds now! If you haven't seen a picture of him lately, there was one on the latest Alex Update you can check out (www.alexupdate.com).

That's it for now. I'll post when I know more.

Sherri
