Brush it off and show him it's not the end of the world. Eventually he'll realize that you are right.

As for the kids saying stuff, I think we've had that, although sometimes Harry comes up with a "poor me" attitude and makes stuff up. I tell him that "so and so" doesn't know what they are talking about and tell him all the wonderful things he knows how to do and how smart he is.
