It's a very bad thing.

While I agree with you that the quality of the original was superior, doing away with it altogether is a bad thing.

For me, the Second Generation's greatest flaw was in making the door jam so small. It's hard for a tall person like me to get in and out of the new X. (Ditto the Frontier.)

And you raise an interesting question: Was the Second Gen the undoing of the Xterra? What roll do the new style play in the drop in sales?
