Subject: Problem with Clutch/Gears 2000 Xterra

I have a 2000 and just ran into a crazy clutch problem yesterday. I have the original clutch (130K) miles. I stopped at a red light and was in neutral. I tried to put it in first - would not let me. It would not let me engage any gear. I pushed it down the hill and tried to put it in gear (thinking the clutch went) and it would not let me physically put it into gear (no grinding no nothing). I shut the truck off and it would go into gear. The clutch felt normal - no problems (i thought it would go all the way to floor if blown right?). I had the truck towed to a shop. I just received a phone call. They tried to put it in gear - loud noise, grinding and a POP. Now the truck runs fine. They drove it 3X today with no problems. I am on the way to pick it up. Is this a sympton of something larger? Has anyone ever heard of anything so crazy?????
