The best way I can describe the noise is as follows:
There is a light grinding noise similar to what you would hear if your brakes were worn and starting to grind on the rotor. The difference is that the grind is not constant. It seems to rub and let up with a rythm similar to the same RPMs at which the wheels are spinning. That is what makes me think it is in the axle. The noise only lasts for two seconds after the turn is make and the vehicle is straightening out and regaining speed.
