Could be of interest to Pete Clase or Lewis Stool?

Dear all,

I am writing to quite a large number of rugby teams from different countries because I think that in these days you are programming next rugby year and you might be interested in my invitation.
I am writing on behalf of Valsugana Rugby, a club based in Padova, Italy, that every year on 25th of April holds a tournament for kids from under 7 to under 13. The tounament lasts one full day and we expect to see about 1000 young athletes on our pitches to play, eat, need medical assistance and every kind of help. The day after we'll exploit all the structures and facilities of the tournament for as many under 15 friendly matches as possible.

This will be the 19th time we hold this tournament and therefore we have quite a lot of experience for every kind of problem and solution and we can help you in lots of ways for accomodation , transport etc...Most of Italian international players, when they were young, participated to the tournament so now they are more that happy to show up and usually they hand the cups to the winners.

Padova is situated in the middle of the north-eastern Italian region of Veneto, the traditional home of Italian rugby, so you are quite sure you will find a good opposition and a great experience for your kids, even considering that if you want to have a look around, apart from Padova, that is a nice town, in less than one hour you can go to Venice or Verona. Usually the 25th of April in Padova is a very good day to play rugby, with glorious sunny days but not too heat.

Last year the tournament was particularly successfull, as you can see at <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://www.valsuganarugby.it/en/torneo_en.html">http://www.valsuganarugby.it/en/torneo_en.html</a> , everybody considered it one of the best junior tournament in Italy and we are very proud and happy because of this, but we think that to improve we need a broader foreign participation, so we'd like YOU to participate! We have plenty of time before the 25th of April, so we can sort out all the possible problems easily, just let me know if you think you might be interested or if you need more information and I'll be glad to answer to every kind of question.

In general I think that you should first take a look to youth rugby system in Italy, that might be different from your nation's for some rule or for age groups:

UNDER 7:
players born in 1996
dimensions of the pitch: width 15m; length 22m number of players: 6 + unlimited number on the bench (but they all must play during each match) the maximum playing time in one day will be around 32 minutes (i.e., for example, that if you are supposed to play five matches from heats to finals
you'll play 6 minutes matches and maybe 8 minutes finals, more or less). general rules: contact rugby with only free kicks (no lineouts, no kicking, no scrum down...)

UNDER 9:
players born in 1994-1995
dimensions of the pitch: width 18-22m; length 40-45m number of players: 8 + unlimited number on the bench (but they all must play during each match) the maximum playing time in one day will be around 40 minutes (i.e., for example, that if you are supposed to play five matches from heats to finals
you'll play 8 minutes matches, more or less). general rules: contact rugby with only free kicks (no lineouts, no kicking, no scrum down...)

UNDER 11:
players born in 1992-1993
dimensions of the pitch: width 35m; length 56-69m number of players: 10 + unlimited number on the bench (but they all must play during each match) the maximum playing time in one day will be around 48 minutes (i.e., for example, that if you are supposed to play five matches from heats to finals
you'll play 9-10 minutes matches, more or less). general rules: contact rugby with kicking only from own 22m area, lineouts thrown with 2 players jumping that cannot be lifted, uncontested scrum
downs with 3 players on each side

UNDER 13:
players born in 1990-1991 dimensions of the pitch: width 40-45m; length 56-69m number of players: 12 + 7 (but they all must play before the end of the tournament) the maximum playing time in one day will be around 60 minutes (i.e., for example, that if you are supposed to play five matches from heats to finals you'll play 12 minutes matches, more or less). general rules: contact rugby with kicking only from own 22m area, lineouts thrown with 4 players jumping that cannot be lifted, uncontested scrum
downs (but hooking can be contested) with 6 players (3-2-1) on each side, kicks for additional points after tries

UNDER 15:
players born in 1988-1989 dimensions of the pitch: same as seniores number of players: 15 + 7
the maximum playing time in one day will be around 60 minutes general rules: normal rugby with players that cannot be lifted during lineouts, uncontested scrum downs (but hooking can be contested)

Regarding transport , closest international airports are Venice, Treviso and Verona, and for accomodation you might find these websites useful:
You'll find a list of hotels at: <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://www.apt.padova.it/HotelPadova.htm">http://www.apt.padova.it/HotelPadova.htm</a>
don't forget a bit of negotiation for a better price if you bring a certain number of persons

Keep an eye even on: <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://www.apt.padova.it/Default.htm">http://www.apt.padova.it/Default.htm</a>

If you want you can have a look at the website of Abano Terme, a thermal town quite close to us and with a large number of hotels etc... where rugby clubs often find accomodation, see: www.abanoterme.net or www.abanomontegrotto.de

For sure you need much more information, just don't hesitate to contact me!

Yours in rugby!

Alessandro Viola
