it had better be? This is what Hercules is reporting on AICN:

Monday, May 12, 2003
WB Renews ANGEL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spike Aboard!! Cordelia Not!!
I am – Hercules!!

Monday’s Variety reports: "‘Angel’ – with new cast addition James Marsters - is taking flight for a fifth season on the WB.” It’s for a full season, according to the trade paper. But founding cast member Charisma Carpenter, who plays Cordelia Chase, “is not expected to return as a series regular.”
Look for some of the best writers from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” to jump back to the WB, as well as quite a few other characters last glimpsed on the streets of Sunnydale.
“Angel” will remain at 9 p.m. Wednesdays, but will get a new lead-in as the hit “Smallville” moves to Wednesdays at 8 p.m.
The WB formally announces its autumn slate Tuesday morning.

I actually already have it on my Angel website, and posted it on the SolitaryPhoenix board. It is the truth - The WB has announced the official '03/'04 schedule, and Angel was definitely renewed. And, yes, Spike is in, Cordy and Connor relegated to guest star status. The WB actually has an option for season six as well, and having Smallville as a lead-in shouldn't hurt. Now if they can only resist the urge to move Angel all over the week this season... ;) Maybe the 'kid' will outlast the 'parent'...

Actually, I'm surprised they didn't wait until after Buffy's finale to say that James Marsters would be joining Angel. I know that The WB doesn't owe UPN anything, but the fact that Spike is [1] around, 'alive' and kicking, after the latest [last?] Sunnydale almost-apocalypse [2] without Buffy, are spoilers in themselves and can really lead viewers to know at the very least that Spike survives, and that he and Buffy don't stay together [slight spoiler: at least not romantically attached at the hip, although I believe they actually are ultimately closer than Buffy and Angel were. Buffy chooses Spike over Angel when a choice needs to be made - end of spoilers. And PS - please keep in mind Joss loves to throw fake spoilers out, so if I'm totally wrong, sorry, I do my best!].

I guess I should try to remember to post stuff like this on both boards! Or maybe I should meld the two boards - neither is getting a whole heck of a lot of traffic, but together, maybe there would be enough to generate some conversation...decisions, decisions... :)
