Just saw this on SciFi.Com, and thought it was interesting. It does contain some spoilers, though.
***********************************************
Finale To Alter Enterprise

Rick Berman, producer of UPN's Enterprise, offered SCI FI Wire several spoilers for the upcoming second-season finale, called "The Expanse," which he said will set the show on a new course. "For the first time on a Star Trek series, we're going to be dealing with a mission to save Earth," Berman said in an interview. "We'll be dealing with a different group of aliens, [and] we're going to be dealing with some new, non-Starfleet people coming on the ship to add a little muscle for the potentially violent situations our crew will be coming up against."

Berman added, "One of our characters is going to lose someone back on Earth during this devastating blow. There's going to be a major change to T'Pol [Jolene Blalock], based on whether or not she'll join the crew in going into" a Bermuda Triangle-like region of space.

Berman said the finale will change the direction of the show. "It's exciting for us because, in a way, it gives us a new show to write. It will still be Star Trek, and it will still be Enterprise, and we'll still have all of our characters with us. But it will be a real course [correction]. We're excited about it, and it does all get set up in the final episode of the season." "The Expanse" will air at 8 p.m. ET/PT May 21.
***************************************************
Isn't it interesting that they would try to change course, and... is it a good idea? I think it's interesting, but I hope it's something that grew creatively and not as the result of a poll or anything like that.

I agree. Having Enterprise be a search and explore mission like TOS, makes sense, given the fact this show is set previous to the others ~ what would they change? They need to meet all the species before they can interact with them, yadda, yadda, yadda... I hope they wouldn't change anyone on the crew itself. Altho I'll hold back until it airs, I kind of like the crew as is. Non-muscular types and all. While polls and following the viewers' wishes can be a good idea -if you never do what the fans want, you'll lose them- but the suits should also attempt to stay the course creatively as well. What, some people don't think Trip and Malcolm are "manly" enough, something stupid like that? I think they're both pretty cute, and I cannot imagine anyone having complaints about Archer. And what could they do to T'Pol? Physically change her like they changed Trance in Andromeda? Give her longer hair, maybe? They certainly couldn't, er, endow her any differently. It's a little different in this series, because there is a history that has to be followed, and the Vulcans as a species are well documented, so I don't know what physical or personality changes could be made to her. Now, if they wanted to try to explain the difference between the original series Klingons and the ones we know know from Enterprise, TNG and DS9, THAT I'd like to know... Ah, I'll never understand people. So silly and shallow.

I did take a quick look at the Star Trek site, and saw that Archer will be visiting an old girlfriend on Earth, odds are she's the one who is "lost to someone." Oh, well, guess we'll have to wait. Thanks for the post; I haven't looked in at SCIFI.com since earlier this morning. Guess I should take another quick look. :)

I don't have any proof of this, but I have heard that they were going to have Worf mention this on one of the shows, and allude to the fact that the early series Klingons were either:

1) A ruling caste that looked different and who were eventually overthrown

or

2) Genetically modified regular turtle shell headed Klingons who changed their appearance to look more like Earthlings.

I think the reference was in the writen script, but taken out of the official version during filming.

yes, that would have made sense. I think the only actual reference was made in the episode where they time-traveled, and wound up in the TOS episode The Trouble with Tribbles. The humans with Worf asked what happened, and he said it was an embarrassing thing that he didn't want to discuss (something along those lines). Personally, I much prefer the new model to the "original". :)
