college and university degrees in (forensic) psychology, criminal law, criminology or similar areas are certainly helpful. A master's and even a doctorate would also help to establish yourself in a field in which many people claim to have expertise, but few really have. Also important is work experience in law enforcement, a police force, or a prison or mental institution for offenders. It's a long way, but if you're serious about it, you will have many opportunities, even if profiling should not work out for you.
