Subject: Psych profile of a women hating serial killer (for fiction)

I am a health-care professional, not a psychologist, so I come here for help. I am writing a novel(my first), and have come to the point where I need to provide psychologic background on the bad guy. I am currently writing a story where the villian stalks women and kills them. Not an uncommon theme. At any rate, I am looking for ideas as to the typical psychologic background of such an individual. Any help you could give in general terms would be appreciated. This is fiction and so can exercise liberal creative freedom. In general terms, would this type of individual been abused by a mother? abandoned as an infant? etc. I have a local college library, so if anyone would rather provide references to any specific journals or articles that might be helpful in my novice profiling that would be greatly appreciated.
