Subject: VERY IMPORTANT
(ooc: Most of this will be in character, and somewhat lengthy. If you are bored with it or don't have time to read it, READ THE DIALOGUE. It is VERY important, and it is both DOL and I speaking. At the very least, read the summary at the bottom.)
The palomino, once golden with the vigor of youth, ambles to the center of the herd, whiskers whitened with age. Her eyes were haunting, holding more of that age than she truly had. The jovial spark that once inhabited them had faded, and it was replaced by a solemnity suited to the melancholy situation demanding this speech. Still, this regal mare was yet the same as ever--a strength hidden behind delicate grace, a warm heart open always for friendship, and a passion for leadership. Her step was still light, for though he physical appearance was aged, her natural healing powers kept her body eternally young. So strong was this healing, empowered innately and by gift of a leviathan mage storm, that it was said the mare herself was eternal. As it stood, nothing had yet proven otherwise. But these heavy thoughts that flitted across her still-active mind were not the reason of her abrupt presence.
“My fellow horses, my herd, my colleagues, my dearest friends. It is not often that one such as I makes a speech such as this, yet the opposite appears to be true. This is a time of change for these great lands, a time of change for the horses. The changes here speak inevitably of changes in the larger scheme. The mountains that give us refuge, the grand Cascades, tremble with restrained movement. I have felt this rumble for a long time now. At first I tried to deny it, ignore it, thinking that if I refused to acknowledge its presence, it would disappear. However, that was not the fate of our dear homeland. The rumble has grown to an earthquake, and if it is not released our way, it will explode into catastrophic destruction. I cannot stubbornly stand against that force; I am not nor have ever been worthy of such a stance.
It is my time. I can no longer serve as your Queen. I have thought over this at length, and nothing will persuade me otherwise. I simply cannot. For the good of the Lights, I must step down. We need new ideas, new leadership. Please do not try and convince me otherwise.
Also, please do not think I am leaving you. I will stay here and remain as your lead mare unless there is significant opposition to that. The new Queen will also live here, and that is my one condition I leave to the Lights upon taking my leave. As long as a breath stirs in my body, Paradise Isle is to be the royal light territory. I will help as much as is asked of me, but it is no longer my burden, no longer my responsibility.
To make it formal: I, Daughter of Light, Queen of the Light Horses for nearly two and a half years, surrender my position as royalty.”
The mare halted abruptly, as if teetering on the edge of a cliff. It certainly felt that way to her. She locked her knees stiffly, refusing to allow them to buckle as she wished them too. Fighting also the tears attempting to well up in her eyes, she looks for her chestnut Welsh, the only being that could understand her agony and comfort her in her darkest hour. She stood proudly, however. To them, it must seem this had not broken her. She had given no instructions for a new queen, but decided to leave that to them to decide. Her direct influence was over. Stoically, she resisted the urge to flee, to rush headlong from the turmoil in her heart. But she knew she could not escape it. She had done the right thing… hadn’t she?
OOC SUMMARY: DOL is no longer Queen, but she is remaining lead mare. The new queen is to be agreed on by whoever has the influence. Preferably, I and DOL would strongly like for it to be one of DOL’s daughters, adopted or birth. And I do not speak for Steel at all: he is still King. DOL’s reason for stepping down is because we do need a change in leadership with new ideas and ways of doing things. And also because I, as a player, cannot handle the responsibility of her office, and I am systematically butchering the Lights and all of CM because of it.
IMPORTANT: I no longer own Cascade Mountains. Megan (Kieshorse) is the new owner, and she is to run it as she sees fit.

The majestic grey arab watches the queen respectfully. Though not knowing her hardly at all, she respected the decision and knew that it took great courage to surrender such a thing that she must've worked very hard on. She lowered her head respectfully, her tail twitching at various intervals. She had somewhat taken over things since everyone's absence, but vowed to herself to keep in her place until all was decided.

The Bashkir curly rises from her slumber of sorts, her dark mocha eyes watching her mother with a rising sadness. She had barely conversed with the palomino mare in months and months, and she felt oddly distant from her. Though she appeared focused on DOL's solemn words, her ears were in constant search for her son, who proceeded to appear.

The colt, now nearly three, treaded up next to his mother on gangly legs. He was quite handsome, in a coltish sort of way. All in all, he was growing terrifically, and had nearly surpassed his mother's height. He barely listened though, for his mind was surfing the waves that crashed against the Isle day in and day out, captiviating his attention. Muscles taut, he watched as a wave broke before even reaching the shore. The ocean was his best friend, and comforted him constantly.

Femora watched the former Queen deep gray-green ooids filled with respect. Though her home was not here she had meet the Queen before on her quest for help when Hopeful Valley was in time of need. The gracious ruler had been kind then something not forgotten easily. Dial was bowed low towards Daughter of Light who she would forever look upon with a deep respect. Turn was made in direction of Hopeful Valley were she would for sure spend many a year more.
{..It's real sad to see DOL stepping down from rule and quite shocking I'm sure. It will be hard not thinking of her as Queen of Lights as I am sure most will remember forever that way. Good luck to whomever is choosen as new ruler it will be hard to find someone half the ruler she was..}

He approaches without hesitation; what this land once held against him, being evil, no longer applies. He is but a worn-out and aged stallion... very much like the former Light Queen.

It's the least everyone can do for the queen who led us through it all) we pick one of your daughters. Lets see....there's Princess of Light, Steel Destiny, French Silk, and Dust Bunny. Princess of Light is here as far as I know, Steel Destiny is here(or is she on leave?), French Silk I know got snuck, reason why she's not here right now, and Dust Bunny hasn't been here for a while...(did she quit or did she just leave for a while?).

*The ebon' dial of one of past conversations and as she saw it still friendship appeard. Steel blue orbs holding wisdom beyond some years, though the silver that now tainted her raven coat showed she had seen younger and better years. A soft smile was given as the humble mare of the Light side, Lead of Hopeful Valley, and friend to all in need bowed. Softly words poured forth as she greeted the now Retired Queen, though the respect for her would never be less* "Daughter of Light (DOL, duh) I shall forever be in your debt for helping my herd in times of trouble, as has your friendship through my own times of sorrow. You have been and are a Queen that we shall never forget." *Smiles softly then dipping her dial took her leave*
~As one ebon' mare left another appeard. This one younger then the first but not by much, though her crystal blue orbs shined with the love of a mate, something the first did no longer share. Silver strands fall about arabian facaige as she bowed her dial in respect for the one she now stood before~ I wished to thank you for all the time and effort you have put into the lands of Cascade Mountains, for without your dream...none of it would've been possible. ~Smiling she too turned and left, heading now to her home of Destiny Falls~
*The final to appear was one of the very herd she stood, her dark bay coat glittering in the sunlight and sparkled with droplets of dewy sweat. Smiling her innocent smile, though innocence had long ago been slightly tainted. She'd come to wish her now Lead and the past Queen a contious gift of a happy life. After all did not DOL wish the same for them* "DOL, my lead, I wished to thank you for allowing me to stay. You're kindness has reached me as well as many other's throughout the years. I pray that it may contiue, even if you no longer hold the top position throughout the land, you will very well hold it in some of our hearts." *Bowing as her mother had taught the daughter of Black Mist and follower of DOL disappeard into the growing crowd about the mare of royal and humble beauty*

You've made this game fun beyound belief and rather addicting I might add. *Grin* I've enjoyed the connections and friendships I have made throughout this, through playing just a character, to learning about the player that plays them. To be honest, a 'power struggle' type thing might increase interest in the section as a whole, loyalty to the new Queen, and activity. If you don't want to do that, then my recommendation would be Ellie. I haven't seen her except in this thread, but from that post, and her player, I know she would fill the spot well. Dusty I think is a little bit on the shy/loner side to be a ruler. Sunny (Princess of Light) and Steel Destiny, both of which could be Queen by birthright, are both played by Fran, and I am against having only one person rule a section.
But if you want to go the power-struggle route, we need to inform the other territories of the vacated position and then just let mares fight for it on their own, by gaining popularity and convincing others of their ability to leadership. Once a winner has been unofficially recognized, she could be formally recognized by DOL, and that would be that. It's a bit risky, since we might not know anything about the new Queen or her player, but I think it would be the best way, and most appreciated by other members.

Ellie is a more brawny queen, she'd get out and do things. BUT... I think power struggle is better. Ellie would definitly tramp around for that. I don't want Dusty to be queen, it would ruin her personality. She values integrity and family values, she doesn't want to give that up for fame and power.

Indeed... that'd be all with the fun. -reappears, pretending that she hasn't been gone for... WAY too long- I find that a new person often doesn't know what to do, but in figuring it out, they often are able to come up with better ways than people like you and I, Ashley, who have been doing this for so long it's almost routine. We may or may not be good at it, but either way we very rarely come up with anything new.

Fran and Megan: My thoughts exactly. I love people who find ways to say exactly what I mean but can't put words to.
One thing. How do we start the power struggle? Most people probably are unaware that we don't have a Queen right now. And the people that are aware probably just expect a replacement with no fuss. How do we stir people up?

Reason being is when ever there is a chance to get a higher position then people start cheating. Well, I know it's kind of hard to cheat that way but, people that rule other sections bribe others that they can be their mate if they vote for them. Or they might be a tt leader and then say that so and so can be their mate if they vote for them. There is hardly a usual horse that would give up a chance like that. But sometimes they don't even get it because the leader refuses or said it to many. Another problem is that normal horses, like I, Ellie, and so forth would be harder to raise popularity for compared to.....ooo...like a lead mare. The lead mare already has a whole tt of support. Because of that, there would be only 9 lead mares in the running. AND, I mean, they already have a high position, and that would mean no everyday mares could try. Yes, I know they could try to raise votes or support, but if the tt's already are most likley going to vote/support their lead mare, what's the chance? I hate to be the party pooper on everything *blush* but I'm just trying to remind you of the faults of that. I'm sorry for blabbering, but it IS important.
Anyway........*blushes and looks down at her hoof in which she was twirling in the sand* I kind of like Megan's idea about "we could have people bring fillies and DOL could hand pick one to be raised as queen". That way we don't have to have a totally big problem....AND DOL would pick, so, it works both ways. And also there would be less to choose from, which is a good thing....not too overwhelming.

What if each territory sent one filly, and they ALL were trained by DOL?! That would be less decisive and more interesting than just choosing one right off... or maybe we could do it like a reality show thing where all fillies that want to come, and DOL narrows the pickings regularly until she's got a group of say, 3-5 to train heavily. Yes? DOL would love it...

tt and wait for it to load and THEN get the names! But, who should we pick? How would we tell? Maybe we could post there and ask something like "DOL is looking to train fillies to maybe replace her(incase they didn't know yet). The first (number, hopefully 3 or less.) fillies to post shall be trained." I think that'd work better then just picking from the list because the ones you might have chosen from the list might now be as active or practially gone compared to one you didn't pick who WAS more active. See what I'm getting at? Actually you might just want to pick one or two from a tt because all the tt's other then ours, the most is 4 fillies for the tt. Some have one or none! Maybe you could say half of the fillies they have in that tt you'd train. So it flexes to how many fillies are in each tt, not a standard number. That way it's fair.

I like your "half" rule... and if there is only one, she can come. If there is no fillies sent from one territory, but there is another that wants to send more, we could adjust on a case-by-case basis to see if we can admit more from a particular territory.
I'd like to start this quam primum (asap), but I think it should wait until DOL is not a captive. Once the number of fillies has dwindled, then they can tag along when she's captive, because that's part of being Queen, but I don't think her captors would appreciate over a dozen light fillies romping around uninvited.
We can, however, go ahead and spread the word. Would anyone like to volunteer to do that?

It is an offer on his behalf because he's had his successful sneak and it was before Starlight's. So now he will be able to stop the sneaks. Also, I'd like to enter one of my fillies if you don't mind, she is the only foal at Papillon Lagoon. Her name is Mxpx.
