Author: Steel Dream
Subject: Vague and distant memories

A haggard, ill-groomed stallion makes his stumbling way along the path up to the top of the plateau-like Isle. His creamy mane is long and scruffy, lying on both or either side of his neck and badly tangled and matted. The Welsh Cob's once-rich amber eyes now look distant and pained, stressed by some strange ailment, but they are searching and determined, scanning every aspect of his surroundings for what they seek.

At last he reaches the crest of the path- it's all flat from here. With almost shaky steps the stallion proceeds, wondering if anyone will even recognize him in his home. He has certainly undergone some fairly drastic changes. Where once his coat was bright and gleaming with condition and care, it is now dull and dirty, matted with neglect. His ribs show clearly through it, and he walks not with his previous strength and quiet pride, but with a pained humility. His gaze no longer touches everything it meets with a warm, gentle power, but with a not-quite-flinching briefness. Yes, Steel Dream has changed, and it does not seem to be for the better.

Pregnant healer barely recognized the King in his current state. Dark ooids swept over his broken body with an upset glance. She could heal the failing coat and if there were broken bones but not his spirit. The look was one she was sure she wore when she thought her mate was dead. Pillars carried her swiftly towards him with an easy grace.

Your Majesty?

Voice was shown with clear concern and distress. She did not know the King well only his actions which she respceted greatly. His mate she knew though she had healed her once and listened even when she was a three year old filly. Silvery rocks tapped the terrain as she watched him sadly.

[> *All this reunion, but not at all for fun* -- Dusty and Stormy, 12:58:40 05/02/03 Fri [1]

*Steel Dream had been the closest thing she had ever had to even calling a father, but that was mostly through the relationship he held with her mother. Still, she could not help but feel that her world was falling apart at the seams, what with River gone and her mother retiring. Now, Steel trudged into the territory looking quite bedraggled, and she couldn't do anything to help it.* Steel! *She whinnied, breaking into a canter and halting upon reaching he and the other mare. Plush tanned muzzle is extended to him, making sure it really was he.*

The young colt does not move from his spot, lying splay-legged in the middle of the shallows of the ocean. He does, however, rise to his feet and watch his mother gallop to a stranger that he had not met as of yet. His sharp little ears flick back and forth confusedly. What, pray tell, is going on?
