This could likely be bigger than that. Those affiliates who dropped SUBE in Sept 99 would have done so regardless of the cancelation decision, in fact it may have led to NBC canceling it. Some say, NBC wanted only 2 soaps, although had the affiliates been more supportive, SUBE could have remained on the air even longer

With PC going off in Oct, and it only being June 30th, affiliates will have ample opportunity to find a replacement for Sept's launch of the new season, while affiliates dealing with SUBE's cancelation had no time since the decison was made after the new season began, and
SUBEs final episode worked nicely to provide an easy opportunity for mid-season replacement. This October 3rd
finale is an odd time, I'd be surprised to see many major affiliates (except the O&Os) keep PC past Sept.
