This is the most heart-breaking soap that almost was,
in the history of daytime TV. NBC passed on Emmy
winner Labine's UNION PLACE in favor of the
youth-obsessed SUNSET BEACH. Then, Labine was thisclose
to signing a HUGE CONTRACT with P&G (this was way
before she started on GL) Labine was surprised
at how big a contract they offered her, but she
passed because ABC showed MAJOR INTEREST in her
GH spin-off: HEART AND SOUL. So Labine signed
a contract with ABC, HEART AND SOUL looked like
it was a go, but Wendy Riche heard about it and
wanted a GH spin-off to be LA-based and in her
control, so she quickly came up with the GH2 (PC)
concept. This proves a soap created in haste
and jealousy NEVER NEVER is successful!!! Since
Riche pointed out to the cost-control obsessesed execs it would be cheaper to launch GH2, they went with it. This
is how Labine got the OLTL writing job, in her
contract it stipulated in the event her soap
didn't launch, she would be named HW of the next
ABC soap that needed one, and that was OLTL. I'm sure
she never thought in a million years ABC would
shaft her like that. This is the biggest mistake/hack job
in daytime TV history! (Before anyone starts slamming
ABC President Angela Shapiro, please remember,
Pat Fili-Krushel was Pres. of ABC Daytime back then) :)

Another sad story. This is one of the rare times
a pilot episode was actually filmed for a daily soap
that never launched. So dissapointing for everyone
involved. It was going to be a great 11pm EST daily
nighttime soap, but a change in FOX execs got this
soap shelved!

If only Melissa didn't shack up with Jason Brooks! :)
In case any of you forgot, Reeves quit DAYS when
her husband found out about a real life affair with
her DAYS co-star Brooks. Resulting in AREMID's death
