Jesus Christ, with all the immaturity on this board about people and their past, did anyone realize this holiday weekend that poor Kim Raffo was murdered in Atlantic City at the hands of a possible serial killer? Hmm??? Does anyone care about people anymore? Where is your compassion, your understanding, your love? Where is your sense of community, do you still only think of yourselves 20 years later and did you not notice a loving soul was gone???? Poor Kim, I remember her as sweet person who just grew up too fast, like the rest of us in Canarsie during the 80's. It's times like these where I reflect on my life and see my mistakes and thank God everyday that I made those mistakes so young and then chose a better path as soon as I left Canarsie, that cesspool!. Poor Kim, her poor family, her poor children!!!
Sometimes bad things happen to good people, it's not fair! To those of you who still hold 20 year old grudges, those who still laugh and wallow in other's ancient misery, those who were responsible for participating in the very behaviors you now poke fun at, you've never left that stink hole that was Canarsie in the 80's, you're minds are still in the gutter. Don't feel sorry for the ones who had issues and acted out. Most of those poor souls saved themselves the minute they left the stench of Canarsie.
Feel pity for those who never crawled out and lost it all like sweet Kim. I hope she's at least in your thoughts this holiday season, this news devestated me this week, I can remember her and I hanging out together. She was a good friend to those who had none and real friends were few and far between in Canarsie.

Rhonda Sue (Roni) Gaboff GABOFF - Rhonda Sue (Roni), April 17, 1957 - July 25, 2007. Was tragically and suddenly taken from this life and her loving family by a drunk driver. An unusually spiritual and giving woman, Roni devoted her education and career to child-life art therapy; Roni achieved her Certified Child Life Specialist II; Licensed and Board Certified Creative Art Therapist with a Masters Degree in Professional Studies. As a valued employee of the North Shore L.I.J./Schneider Children's Hospital for 15 years, Roni dedicated countless hours to her young terminally ill patients and their families. She enjoyed raising money for the hospital with her annual "Jello Jumps" with her colleagues. She will be greatly missed by staff and friends. Roni's first passions were both family and work. Her second passion was her music especially Rock 'n Roll. She played the guitar, keyboards and loved many of the bands. Roni leaves a large void within her close family- parents Jack and Kay Gaboff (FI), twin sister Linda Gaboff (NY), and older sister Andrea Adrian (FL), along with many close cousins, aunts, great nieces and nephews in NY/FL/NJ. Services are Friday, 11:15AM at Parkside Chapel in Forest Hills. Internment follows at King Solomon Cemetery in Clifton, NJ. Shiva will be held Saturday at 7:00PM and Sunday at 12:00 Noon at Gaboff, 2 Bay Club Drive, Apt.#1-0, Bayside, NY. Donations are appreciated to North Shore Animal League, Port Washington, NY in memory of Roni Gaboff.

I was raised in Canarsie in the 80's and 90's, what a wonderful place and time. My family just made the cutoff of when Canarsie started to go through the changes. We lived on Remsen Avenue between L & M. I am looking for 2 girls that I used to see in my younger days. Lisa Cristo is the first. She lived on Avenue L between 92nd & 93rd.
There used to be just 2 houses there, next door was the pork store and the hair salon was on the block as well. She had a brother Jimmy who was a fag, really, and a sister Donna. They're father's name was Jimmy also. He had a big four wheel truck. I know that they moved later on to Bedell Lane and Remsen, but after that, i'm not sure. The secong girl, her name was Gina Guarino, she would be about 28 now. She lived on the little lane between 92nd & 93rd streets, off of avenue M. Don't know too much about her family, but, if anyone knows either of these 2 girls or thier families, I would really appreciate any info at all. Sometimes, when you get older....you remember those innocent times. They were simple, don't you wish you can have them back????
