Subject: Gavin's finally here
In reply to: Lynda 's message, "Birth Announcements! Post your stories here!" on 18:51:17 04/14/03 Mon

Short version: John Gavin was born on April 24 at 10:22 am weighing 8 lbs 12 oz and 21 inches long. He had some bruising on his head, otherwise he would have gotten 10 apgars...still yet he got 9s.

Long version: Wednesday I went to the dr and he had decided to induce me the following morning IF I didn't go into labor on my own. Well, after I left his office I had a horrible horrible backache that just got worse all evening. About 8:30 or 9 pm, my mom talked me into go to L and D. Got there, nothing was going on, my back was just hurting and I wasn't in labor...the only contractions I was having were really small and getting nowhere. My dr decided just to have me stay the night since I was already there that way they could get the pitocin started earlier on Thursday. Nurses, actually a student nurse that had never done an IV on a real person, started my IV at around 7:30 am, at 8:00 am my dr dropped by and broke my water before heading to the office. I had thought I'd start having horrible contractions as soon as they started Pitocin and was convinced I'd be dying as soon as he broke my water, but didn't feel a contraction until about 9:15 am. When checked at 9:30 I'd only dilated one centimeter past what I was when I was at the dr the day before...I was at about 5 and a half. I decided then and there I wanted drugs...if I was dilating that slow as much as I was hurting I knew I couldn't handle it. So my nurse gave my a shot of morphine to take the edge off until I could get an epidural at around 9:45 or so. About fifteen minutes later I told my sister to go and get the nurse to come and check me I was having lots and lots of pressure. Nurse checked me at about 10:05, I was fully dilated...there went my epidural lol. Had to try and wait about five minutes for them to get set up and for my doctor to get there before I started pushing. Pushed for about ten to fifteen minutes and Gavin was born at 10:22 am. He's perfect of course. He had some bruising from being a bit large. I tore a little and had a few stitches, nothing to bad. We are both doing great and I'm convinced he's the most precious baby boy ever. Dd is excited, jealous, and a whole bunch of other things rolled into one, so she's adjusting. I am just so glad to have a healthy baby, he's just wonderful.
