Hello, I was a member of NACPAC a few years ago and still see my story From the Top to the Bottom on members stories.
I have just moved to London Ontario to get help from a pump doctor that would only take me as a patient if I moved to London from Welland. I made the move on the 1st of October specifically to get to this doctor only to find that he is not interested in me and says the pain pump is not working for me and wants to remove the pump and try me on oral meds.I have been thru 20 yrs of trials and tests only to have the Saskatchewan College of Physicians and Surgeons recommend the pain pump which was implanted in Aug.97.I moved back to Ontario in '99 and had my pump refills transferred to a doctor in Hamilton. This doctor wanted to remove the pump and lowered the Dilaudid dosage to 1mg/day and told me to find another pump doctor if I did not want to follow his suggestion of removing the pump. It took me 2 yrs to find a pump doctor in Toronto who did not want to raise the pump back up to were it was when I moved back to Ontario and it was definetly helping me at 6.47mg/day of Dilaudid a 20:1. I have put all my hopes and everything I had to make this move only to find that this new doctor wants to remove the pump and have me try oral drugs that I have already been tested on. I am totally lost and do not know what to do and my pain has increased since the last refill on the 26th of Sept. and the new doctor refused to refill my hydromorph contin I use for breakthru pain saying I am getting enuff Dilaudid already from my pump and did not need to take Dilaudid pills. Has anyone any suggestions on what I should do now that the new doctor already has his mind made up irregardless of what I say. I am loosing what little hope I had left with this doctors response to my pain and I do not have any family or support here in London. Lost in London!
