Hi everyone.
Reading through this thread I couldnt help but notice some posts which seemed to be very anti muslim. I may not have read everything properly as unfortunately this forum also seems to be subject to an awful lot of spam posts and its quite possible while I was trying to skim past them, I missed geniune posts.
Anyway, I guess what I wanted to say, to muslims and christians alike, is that posts which immediately refer to mohammed or other concepts which are important to muslim people in a derogatory and insulting way, I personally think, are very unlikely to convince any muslim person of the love and salvation of jesus christ. If anything - well if it were me that was the muslim person, if the first thing I read was something slamming the prophet I had been brought up to believe in and revere, Id probably pretty much immediately start feeling hateful and defensive towards the person, and via them, the religon, I perceived the hate message t come from
and instead of reading and praying about and seeking to understand the real truth, Id immediately be focusing on ways to debate, and disprove any claims that 'christian' had made
In otherwords I think - as a human being - that my reaction if I were a muslim, and read some of the posts in this thread, would be the exact opposite of what god surely wants from a muslim, or any unsaved person.
I hope this post I am making doesnt come across as pompous as it might well do (sorry lol), but I really would ask any christians who are about to post something they feel is valid evidence proving that islam is a false message - that they think about how they word that, and consider how they would react if a muslim person posted a message with a similar wording, about Jesus Christ and the christian faith.
Though we are all guilty of inadvertently wanting to 'win' debates and prove our point (its what we do as humans), as christians I feel that we need to stop and ask whether what we are about to post is going to achieve gods goals, or just our own.
Especially given this is a christian focussed forum, therefore any people of the islamic faith who view the post, are people who have a curiuosity which is strong enough to bring them to a christian forum. Anyone who knows even a little about the culture of muslim people - not to mention the laws of islamic countries, will know that even to view some christian posts out of curiousity, is a much bigger thing, and potentially a big risk, for a muslim, person, much more so than for a christian to take an interest in other faiths
So I just felt I had to say something about that, and suggest that for anyone posting here for muslim people, that maybe we should firstly, thank god that these people have come here and that we have the opportunity to engage with them
and secondly, should think about the respect that as christians we need to give to every other human being we encounter
And finally, this is just my own personal opinion, which is that it seems to me that so many muslim people are so open to enocountering god, and are so willing to sacrifice much more than the average western christian is. So to me, I think, lucky for me salvation is not earned, because if it were, then the muslim people I have met, would be far far more entitled to that salvation, based on deed, than I would.
As a christian I feel I need to treat any person I encounter with respect, and not intentionally treat them in a way that is disrespectful or hurtful. Their faith is important to them. Yes, as a christian I dont believe it is the total and true answer or the way to our father creator god. But it is something that is probably an inportant and special part of their life, so for me to start a potential friendship, or discussion with a muslim person - who doesnt know me at all - nor me them, by insulting beliefs they hold very dear to their hearts - is pretty much a f--k you. And the god I know doesnt tell us to treat anyone that way.
Because you as a christian know that the islamic faith is flawed, does not in my opinion, mean that it is ok to march up to a complete stranger, and - at the same time as you promote yourself as a christian, insult their most precious beliefs to their face, without so much as a hello how are you, first
Sorry if this sounds harsh, and I am sure that the people who I am addressing here, had only the best intentions in mind. I just read through the posts, and the first impression I got from them (the christian ones that is - the other ones just gave me the impression of spammy spam - was hostile, and judgemental.
As christians, we all know that were god to judge us, we'd all be - in the crap to be honest. We are saved totally by grace - despite our actions, definately not because of them
so how about we try and remember how much grace we have been given, and also how precious and loved every single muslim person is to our god, before we make posts which launch straight into accusations such as " Prophet Mohammed's sick imagination for torturing people" and similar
Also - while I am at it, rather than getting into theological debates on the wording of the Q'uran vs the bible, lets remember that we have a loving all knowing, and very personally involved god. What about just suggesting to muslim people that they ask god themselves to give them a direct answer?
After all - christians and muslims both believe in the basically same god as described in the new testament. So couldnt a christian suggest to a muslim who had a question or point of debate, that they ask the 'one god' the god of ibraham (abraham) to show them the truth? And we could also ask that person if they are ok with us praying also on their behalf that god will show them the truth.
After all, hopefully god isnt offended at the way i say this - but, he (god) is a big boy, and i am sure given he created the world, and looks after me and lotsof others every single day, that he is quite capable of answering the geniune prayers of any muslim person who cries out to the Allah the god of abraham (ibraham - sp?). And I believe that any muslim person who has any questions or wonders whether Jesus (isa) was a prophet, or the son of god. I feel confident that any person who geniunely and earnestly asks god to show them the truth of that - will receive an answer from god.
to me thats one of the big and key points as a christian - i dont have to rely on myself or other people for things to happen. at times i can hand things over to god and trust he will deal with them, and he always does.
I feel that if I end up debating a topic which is difficult, emotional, or on which the biblical commentary may seem ambiguous - especially to non believers - that i am well within my rights to hand it over to god and say, youre the expert you show them the truth (or you do something amazing via me to show them)
Sorry that this is so judgemental - even as i tell you not to be. I just kind of feel that any time a person from a faith like islam, approaches a christian - we have a very precious opportunity to show them the love of our father, and we need to be very vigilant with that opportunity, and think about the person - who god loved so much he gave his only son for - when we word our posts in threads like this.
Actually while I am on this, if there are any muslim people reading this, it would be great to hear from you, how you would like people like myself to respond to any questions you have. Is there anything that christians are not addressing when a muslim person has a question for them, and/or is there anything else we christians should be saying, doing that would be helpful to you - to help you understand where we are coming from, or things we can do as christians, to allow us to have a better understanding of where you are coming from?
