Subject: My Task # 12

I propose an activity intended to be used in a class of students from around the world. It was taken from New Interchange Student Book Level 2 by Jack C. Richards, Lesson 4: I’ve Heard of That (sample on http://us.cambridge.org/esl/nic/downloads/student/SBL2.pdf).
On this activity, students are shown some pictures and a small text on different ethnic dishes. First they’re asked to talk about the dishes, and then I’d ask them to tell about special (different or famous) dishes from their own country. By showing the knowledge they have on theses dishes, students will answer some questions going from “Sharing information with restricted cooperation” to “Sharing information with restricted cooperation”. After that, if one is really interested by a dish, an exchange of recipes can come up, unpredicted by the book.
So, since everyone must eat, the subject is interesting, and to talk about the famous dish from his/her country (or a favorite dish) the student must use language to describe it. This activity could also be used in a restaurant in an “outside” class, which the teacher takes the students to a restaurant - for example - where they’d have only English talks.
