Task 12
The activity “Information exchange activities” by Unit 12, make the learners to think about “social interaction” mentioned by Litlewood. First of all the students work in pairs, without show to other their activity. He needs to imagine how a tourist in London needing information about things to do and see. He talks with his partner to enquire about some attractions as the Tower of London, the Science Museum or Changing the Guard. In fact, to the students is essential the ability to take explanation of the social meaning as well as the functional meaning of different language. The student needs to choose the correct language to describe to their partner the attractions in order to get meanings across as efficiently as possible.
According to Littlewood, general function the teacher’s role is to provide to the student the necessary linguistics forms and associations between forms and meanings for later communicative activity. Indeed, this activity helps the connection between students, teachers and language.
