Subject: Task 13

Task 13 – Create a good communication activity and describe it to your classmates. Say which type it is, according to Littlewood.

I think that an excellent way of learning something is teaching this thing. Then the communication activity I suggest is the following:

Communication activity

Two students will play the role of being English teachers and they will talk to each other in order to explain the kind of class they intend to teach on that day. Suppose that teacher A is going to teach the English names of some animals and teacher B is going to teach how to accomplish some first aids. Meanwhile teacher A explains the strategy of teaching his or her class, teacher B may and must ask questions and also give some suggestions to improve A’s class and vice versa. For example, if teacher A says that he or she intends to teach 10 names of animals, which are: hen, cock, ostrich, parrot, hawk, sparrow, duck, beetle, ant and toad, and teacher B does not know all or some of these words, teacher B must ask for their meaning. Teacher A may explain by using description or giving some characteristics the animal has or imitating some animals or anything else that may help teacher B gets the meaning. Teacher B is going to say which strategy he or she thinks it is better for getting students know the meaning of those words. Some strategies of making someone understand information may be better than others, and so, this exercise goes beyond the simple conversation. It makes students research what they will talk about. Of course, depending on the level students A and B are, they may research the information that they will work with or they may receive it ready to use.

Concerning the type the activity is classified:

I think the activity above is classified as FUNCTIONAL COMMUNICATION ACTIVITY and in there students share information with unrestricted cooperation.
