Task 7

As asserted by Ryan, in his text “Overcoming common problems related to communicative methodology” ESL or EFL teachers need to take many points into consideration in order to carry on a class that is interesting, meaningful and practical. Moreover, he points some issues that he considers to be the week points in communicative methodology.
The first point he mentions is about providing adequate feedback. Analyzing the lesson plan by Karlys Wells it is not possible to perceive if any feedback is giving by the teacher, although we can see that the task is done in cooperation with a partner and if the function of the feedback is to keep students motivated, it seems that the plan fulfills this requirement. About clarifying goals it seems that the Well’s plans also accomplishes it. Regarding the point of maintaining a teaching style, it is not possible to notice it since it would be necessary to watch the class in order to verify it. The routine framework proposed by Ryan, is pretty much followed by Wells. The brainstorm in the lesson plan works as a warm-up. The presentation is also done as the project is explained in a detailed way. There is not the controlled practice, but on the other hand students have to solve a problem through research and exchanging information. Feedback is done through negotiation among the participants. If we consider sharing as part of feedback we can also say that the part where their work would be published as a feedback since it will be the product of their work. The last two points mentioned by Ryan: Cultural awareness and Teacher- student relationship I cannot see how it can be applied in the analyses. However, if we take into consideration that youngsters on 12th grade in the USA will be thinking about buying a car very soon since they can get their driver’s license when they are 16 years old.
