According to the text we can test communicative competence through productive and receptive skills, both are concerned to real life communication, in which learners are exposed to. In the productive process of testing it will be considered the appropriateness and not only correctness in that language is used. In the receptive process it will be considered the ability for understanding the main aspects of the writing/speaking objectives. Learners are supposed to comprehend and respond to it in real time. To reach the purposes the communicative test must be linked to a specific context, that is, the test should be based on a description of language that learners need to use. If it is not possible, the test can be taken in a general social situation format. Depending on the aims of the test we have to make adaptations. For example, if it is an achievement test it is necessary that testees be prepared for that, I mean, learners must be taught about that before being tested. In general, the communicative tests are focused on simulations of real life situations and not in the reliability of the results. Evaluation in this testing process is such a difficult task because we cannot say objectively that something is right or wrong in real-life. In this case, it is necessary the use of a band scale of quality (not quantity) of the productive and receptive skills to check the testees’ results. The author points out that if we cannot make a test completely communicative we have, at least, to insert communicative elements on it.
