How we can test communicative competence

Communicative competence is not only the ability to form correct sentences but to use them at appropriate times. Thus, it does not work if a student has good scores in a text test that he had to complete spaces with correct words, know countable or uncountable nouns, but does not have the ability to express his opinions.
In talking part in a group discussion, they need to use both listening and speaking skills to communicate.
A good way to test communicative competence is give students tasks to talk about. Create situations that they have to use their ability to speak. For example: a jury, an employer interview, a dialogue between mother and daughter and others.
Students need real situations to discuss about, teachers have to bring it more natural as possible, thus students will feel more confident and be more enthusiastic to learn a foreing language.
