Task 14

Read the text below and say how we can test communicative competence.
Testing Communicative competence http://iteslj.org/Articles/Kitao-Testing.html

When we think about testing communicative competence, the first think that we have to have in mind is that we are testing the capacity of the student of using the language in real situation, more than the pronunciation and grammar used, unless it influences the communication. What should be tested is if the students are able to pass the messages they intended appropriately, if they are receiving the correct messages, and if the context is appropriate.
The teacher when planing the tests should be aware of what students have been learning, what they are more likely to encounter in a real life situation, and also create the right environment in which the assessment will occur since communicative tests are often very context-specific. Moreover, the teacher should not expect a right or wrong answer, he should see how the students manage the task they are engaged to in order to comprehend it and respond to it. Another important feature of the testing communicative competence is see if the activity has a meaning and a purpose to the students, and if they very clear to them.
