Subject: Task 14

Read the text below and say how we can test communicative competence.

In order to test communicative competence, examiners should provide their testees with a friendly, realistic environment that will enable the latter to produce pieces of communication in a receptive way.
Examiners should not pick out specific details, but rather understand the communicative intent of the speaker or writer. This could be done by stimulating the potential testees to extend their activities in class; for instance, students who listen to a lecturer will later need to use information from it in a paper.
It is worth mentioning that a good communicative language test should attain to the language the testees need to use, otherwise it would be out of context.
To what extent communicative language tests stimulate real life situation is presumably more important than reliability of the results, because if the testees are capable of producing appropriate utterances provided by real situation, the above mentioned reliability will be compensated.
