it may be interesting to evaluate students using portfolios, but some attention should be given to aspects such as:

* age of the students (it is not an activity that is suitable for younger students)
* feedback (teacher must give students some feedback, otherwise they'll get without motivation)

in my point of view, the most interesting aspect about portfolios is that students might be invited to reflect upon what they, themselves, do for their learning, moreover, using the portfolios, it is possible to see the development of the students during a period of time, evaluating, thus, the process of learning.
