COMMUNICATIVE APPROACH
Teacher: Vera Menezes
Student: Andréa Ferreira Viola

Task 13:

The activities presented below must be done in an advanced class because they request a large number of vocabulary and structures.

 Activity 01:

The three wishes game

The game can be played with any number of students.
Cut out some “granting cards” which give power to the students. Then give each student a slip of paper and ask them to write three wishes on it (I wish I could…; I wish I had…; I wish I was…). Ask them to keep it in a pocket. After that, pass round a hat or a bag and ask each student to take one granting card. Tell them that the card gives them magic powers to grant any wishes to do with that subject. There is only one snag: they can’t grant their own wishes… The object of the game is to find people to grant their three wishes. So, students must move round the class, telling people their wishes until they find someone who can grant them. When they have had all their wishes granted, they can sit down.
The activity gives to the teacher the oportunity to work on vocabulary to express personal caracteristics, talents and abilities.

Examples of granting cards:

1. You have the power to grant any wishes to do with LOVE
2. You have the power to grant any wishes to do with TIME
3. You have the power to grant any wishes to do with MONEY
Etc…

 Activity 02:

A crazy story telling

First part: Give some magazines to the students and ask them to cut out some pictures they like. They must cut as many pictures as possible.

Second part: Scramble the pictures and ask each student to choose one. Here starts the story telling…
The teacher or one of the students starts telling a story with something like Once upon a time there was a beautiful girl… and, after saying everything he/she wants, this person shows his/her picture to the next student. This student must go on, including the situation of that picture in the story. This process must be repeated with all the students and it doesn’t matter wether the pictures have non-sense with the story. In a contrary, it’s better if it happens because the teacher can test his/her students’ ability to create things when they won’t have too much time to think about that.
