ANSWER TASK 10

Explain what a lexical approach is. Describe its main characteristics.

We can summarize the Lexical Approach in some words: language consists not of traditional grammar and vocabulary but often of multi-word prefabricated chunks. I found as main characteristics:
- The Lexical Approach utilizes fixed and semi-fixed phrases which form an important part of the language;
- Through this approach the students acquire the language using prefabricated chunks and not through the use of grammar and vocabulary, like it is used in traditional methods;
- The ideas of this approach suggest that the students will reach the fluency, when he getting to acquire a large store of fixed and semi-fixed prefabricated items.
In this sense, when the teachers teach some point of grammar as “present tense of verb to be”, for example, they will not teach “am, is, are” out a phrase, but they will teach the occurrence of the present tense in the phrase. For example, the students will learn use the present tense of verb to be in phrase such as: “She is beautiful.” “You are so beautiful”.
