Explain what a lexical approach is.

The lexical approach consists of teaching the students some chunks, or rather the must useful groups of words, or in other words, students learn the most common and useful expressions and idioms. This approach puts apart the grammar rules and isolated vocabulary studying.
This can be very efficient in that many structures (in English) do not correspond with the Portuguese language. This is, in my opinion, an excellent way to training collocation.
And, a good way to improve this matter of collocation can be, according to Nattinger (l980), reading in the target language, comparing translations, working with languages corpus among others.
This sort of comparison may help Brazilian students, as an example, to learn that we should say ‘a handsome man’ and not ‘a beautiful man’.
