ANSWER TASK 11

Explain what a genre-based approach is.

After read the sources indicated by the teacher I could conclude that genre-based approach is a group of ideas that show the language can be acquired through using of texts of different genres. Genre-based approach focus on texts and on the development of vocabulary and it is based on writing. It is also based on the analysis of texts, where the students will verify in which context they are used. The analysis of these texts of varied genres, it will take the students to learn how they can produce texts in the same analyzed genres. The idea is that when working with texts of several types of genres, the students develop competence to use the language in different contexts. Chris Gallagher says that genre-based approach “is an approach that raise students’ awareness of the linguistic features of a genre and thus allows them to develop literacy across a variety of genres they will encounter in any curriculum, or even in non-school environments.”
