TASK 12

I am sending another activity which I consider more appropriated to Littlewood's ideas.

I took from the same book I mentioned in the other email which is: BAILEY, K.M.&SAVAGE,L. New Ways in Teaching Speaking.Bloomington:Pantagraph Printing,1994.

Real Problems

This activity motivates students to develop communicative competence because it is based on student-identified needs. The focus on sharing problems and creating solutions together fosters an atmosphere of trust and cooperation in the classroom. The students' reservoir of practical knowledge about living in the USA increases.

Levels - intermediate +
Aims - practice interacting solve problems in English
Class Time - 30-60 minutes
Preparation Time - none
Resources - none

PROCEDURE

1.Have students select a partner. (partners should not have
the same L1.)
2. As a warm-up exercise, ask students to discuss the minor, daily problems caused by living and going to school in a foreign country.
3. Ask students to choose one personal problem with a definite solution (e.g., the student may need information about taking a driving test, choosing a dentist, studying for the GRE, using public transportation, or learning to use a computer).
4. Have partners discuss ways to solve each other's problems and create a plan of action.
5.Act as an information resource to check the feasibility of the plans.
6. Ask for volunteers to share their problems and solutions
with the class.

I consider this activity is the "Sharing and Processing Information", because learners share information, discuss, evaluate given informations in order to solve problems.
