TASK 9

A task-based language learning approach aims to provide the students with the opportunity to develop their skills through activities they are used to doing, using their own language in everyday situations.

The teacher is supposed to prepare an activity in which the students will find themselves forced to research, analyse and solve problems according to the theme proposed and the pre-task activity presented.

For example, the teacher would show a video on a business meeting as a pre-task activity and the students’task would be to do a research on the subject matter of this meeting, act out the same situation, giving suggestions and finding solutions to the problem. In the end of the activity, there should always be a feedback on the students’ performances , correction of mistakes and clearing out remaining doubts.

By using this teaching method, the teacher is rather concerned with functional competence than with form and the students will be able to feel they can use this second language in real life situations.
