Explain what a task-based approach is. Describe its main characteristics.

From the reading I have done, the task-based approach have some kind of holistic features within its principles. By that I mean, and I quote, "the need for a new epistemology for learning, one that emphasizes active framework over concepts and representation". The real life context is the true one.

A task-based approach is concerned with the presentation of "authentic contexts for learners, because they allow learners to gain access to the standpoint that enables practioners to act meaningfully and purposefully" in the real world. In other words it abhors theory without practice.

Another main characteristic of such an approach is that "it presents learners with carefully graded activities, or 'tasks', in order to develop their communicative competence".

I suppose that this very course we are taking, apart from the obvious realization that it is an on-line course, has its debt to the task-based approach. Everything is intermingled around here on Earth nowadays. Everything should behave "holistically".
